Bethann Garramon Merkle is an artist/communicator fascinated with communicating science and sustainability. She was named Outstanding Photojournalist of the Year (Quebec, 2012), and her award-winning work has been published across North America, in outlets including American Scientist and www.buzzhootroar.com. Her photography and illustrations have been commissioned by clients such as Parks Canada, The Nature Conservancy, and wildlife ecologists studying bears, bison, and bighorn sheep. She pens a syndicated illustrated column, edits academic manuscripts, and teaches 'sketching for science' courses for entities like Harvard Forest, The Glacier Institute, and the Ecological Society of America.
