Luke Kennard was born in Kingston Upon Thames in 1981 and grew up in Luton. He won a Gregory Award in 2005 for his first collection of poems The Solex Brothers. His second, The Harbour Beyond the Movie, (Salt, 2007) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection, making him the youngest writer ever to be shortlisted. His most recent book, A Lost Expression, was released in 2012 alongside a novella, Holophin. Like Cain will be his 5th collection of poems. His criticism has appeared in Poetry London and the Times Literary Supplement. He lectures at the University of Birmingham.
