Bianca Hylwa

Bianca Hlywa (b.1992, Montreal) is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in London. Bianca is the daughter of an American (actually Canadian) dream. Her parents, (a football player and cheerleader) were the children of WW2 Ukrainian immigrants/refugees. Bianca was brought up somewhat conservative and somewhat Christian. Like many other Western humans born into these dynamics, she was raised with strong and unstable dichotomies that linger (good vs. bad, success vs. failure, life vs. non-life). Bianca’s humanities degrees packaged her affinity for capitalist largeness, marketable flesh and war’s generationally reverbed horror into an art practice which mostly consists of growing large scale SCOBYs.
